On the Case
Some more fun fabric to spruce up my couch. Using the same 20×20 inch pillow forms as before and some coordinating striped and polka dot fabric. Ta Da! Some lovely reversible pillows! The fabric is 100% cotton, removable and washable. This way I can keep them nice and clean and if I get bored of the color scheme I can switch them out. I would like to add two more pillows since it is a long couch. But I am still on the look out for the right fabric. I also made some small pillows for the bedroom. I’ll be sure to take some pictures later to show you guys.

Monkey-ing Around

Look at these fabulous shoes that my husband purchased as a surprise for me!! Boy does he know the way to my heart! Beautiful, shiny patent leather with metal accents. And with that plate on the toe, talk about self defense capabilities!

I have been making more of an effort to eat wholesome, real foods. However, I no longer live in close proximity to a Whole Foods market. (Frownie face goes here.) Luckily many of the grocery chains are starting to carry a wider selections of organic and natural foods. Hooray! Here is a small selection of some of my favorites.
My favorite cereal is Autumn Wheat from Kashi. It is so tasty and filling!! They also have a
cinnamon version that my husband loves. Pair with some delicious vanilla Silk soy milk (or milk that is rBGH-free) and you are good to go.
Next on my list is Dannon’s all natural yogurt. It is very creamy and the 4 oz. cups are just the right size. Sorry Yoplait, you’ve been replaced…
Now it’s cookie time! These “cookies with a cause” from Immaculate Baking Co. are just about best I’ve tasted in awhile. I love pumpkin cookies, and the ginger adds some wonderful depth to the flavor. Yum Yum!
Tell me some of your favorite items from the organic and/or natural foods realm. I would love to try them.
Eat well my friends!

Pretty Peacock

I try to be cool and make art…but I will not claim to be an artist! It’s the one artistic area where I have to create patterns for myself. I am very mathematical when it comes to creating paintings, etc. I think that is why I like mix media art so much! Rarely can I just pick up a paint brush and end up with something usable. It has to be graphed out, sketched out, etc. That is why I mostly stick to sewing!
But with the help of some textured card stock, silver paint and stamps I created a pretty peacock. If you would like create your own, here is the pretty peacock pattern I made. Use any colors and/or materials you love. You can also resize the pattern to make a larger or smaller version. I think even Afton could be proud of my little attempt at artistry!

Pillow Talk
About 8 months ago, my husband and I moved into our new townhouse. It is about twice the square footage of our last condo. We felt like we had tons of furniture
, but once we moved in we realized that wasn’t really the case. We gave ourselves a small budget to get the rest of our furniture, so Ikea and Craigslist became our best friends! I love all the furniture we acquired (and the awesome prices)…but I must say we need some COLOR! So, on my last trip to Ikea I picked up some fun fabric by Eva Lundgreen and Helen Trast and some white pillow forms. I was originally going to use the reversible pillows in the living room, but I made one and it looked so at home in the loft/library area. Plus, my husband got this awesome red plastic chair for his desk so the pillow fit in nicely.

The red and orange really pop against the neutral-ness. Now we just need some more art and rugs for the naked walls and floors!

Look what I just got in the mail! The “Circle Weeds” print I ordered from Rachel Ann Austin Paintings. You have to check out her wonderful mixed media paintings. Such simplistically wonderful textures and colors. And her prices are just too amazing! I am sure she hasn’t seen the last of me! I’ve already got my eye on a couple more. Thank you Rachel for helping me fill my home with great art!

I found some very lovely and inexpensive beauties in my latest shopping venture. My husband and I were on a mission to find a cheap file cabinet for my studio. Online we found a warehouse in Salt Lake that sells discount office furniture. So we picked a four drawer vertical file cabinet for a whopping forty dollars! I love it when a plan comes together…
Whenever I am in Salt Lake I always make a point to visit Emilie Jayne. You can always find very chic lovelies there. I found a fabulous light green shaggy rug that would have been perfect for my living room. But it had a sold sign on it…how sad! I did find this nice “Parisian” canister ($12). I think it will make a nice home for my paint brushes. Then off to Target for groceries and hanging files! While searching for the files, I stumbled upon these adorable birdie salt and pepper shakers ($4.95). I had to pick up two sets!
So, I have decided that I am a total sucker for anything white porcelain! All my dishes, serving bowls and platters, etc. are white porcelain (or clear glass). It makes it so easy to mix and match and replace items over the years while still maintaining continuity.
What a great little shopping day with minimal damage to the pocket book!
